Auglaize County High Point Trip Report

Date: July 7, 2001

This was the first access issue I have come across. The two areas are around the barn and house of a horse boarding farm. I drove up the driveway from Route 67 and parked in their parking area. I rang the doorbell on the house and yelled into the barn with no response. I then quickly went to the two areas. The first area was in the parking lot, and the second area was along the hedgerow behind the barn.

After I visited the two area, I got in my car, and as I was pulling out, the owner came up the driveway in a tractor. He stopped, and I told him that his property was on the highpoint of Auglaize County. He was not belligerent, but said he doesn't like people coming up to his farm, and that's why he put up the No Trespassing sign at the start of the driveway. I told him I hadn't seen it (which is probably because there isn't one). He said he doesn't want his farm to be a "tourist attraction." I told him I would let the other COHPers know not to visit.

If you want to bag Auglaize CO, I recommend you call ahead (I didn't get the owner's name or number) and hope you get his wife, who may be more cooperative.
