Sugarloaf [USGS BM] (1396 ft)

From US 422 and Nash Road in Welshfield, go east on Nash 1.6 miles to a left turn (north) onto Mumford
Road. At 2.4 miles, enter the driveway at the mailbox labeled ML JR Garver #17341, and follow it uphill
to the top. The Garvers' home sits right on the summit. The USGS data sheet for Sugar Loaf (two words)
misspells the Garvers' name as Graver. The phone number provided is still current. I called the Garvers
from Welshfield and got permission to drive up. They were exceptionally cordial, and welcome
highpointers. They do request a call in advance. The property is exceptional, with winter views
extending to Lake Erie. Birds at the feeders are practically tame. I gave the Garvers my map from
Topozone and the USGS data sheet, which they had never seen. I also mailed them a copy of the photo I
took of them in front of their house.
