Miami County High Point Trip Report

Leave Interstate 75 at exit 82 near Piqua, and drive east on US 36 for 10 miles to the tiny settlement of Lena. Turn left on the Lena-Palestine Road (CR 108) and drive north 2 miles to the intersection with Snodgrass Street. Turn right and go east 0.4 mile to Worthington Road, which marks the county line. Turn right and head south on Worthington to where the road jogs sharply to your left (east).

Park here and hike south along the field boundary line. Area 1 is an incursion from the adjacent county that skirts the county line for about 0.25 mile south of the jog in the road. I found a high spot right on the county line at (40° 9.990' N, 84° 1.474' W), but hand leveling revealed that there are other equally high spots out in this muddy bean field.

To visit area 2, return to the intersection of Snodgrass Street and Lena-Palestine Road. Continue north for 0.4 mile and park on the edge of the road. Hike east along the south side of a fence line out into the cornfield. Close to the woods, there is a small but obvious rise that is area 2.

At this point, you are only about a mile away from the three high points of Shelby County, so consider visiting them as well when you are in this area. To be successful at both sites, plan to visit when the fields are clear and relatively dry.
