three areas including BM Paris and spot elevation at 1,354 ft (1,350+ ft)

From the small town of Paris, head north 0.3 mile on Paris Avenue to Beechwood to Warren. The road goes north a short distance (Paris), jogs to the right (Beechwood) and then Warren goes off to the right as the main road bends north. Warren Road is paved, but rough. Proceed another 0.8 mile to a white house on the top of the hill to the south (# 13280). Ask at the house for permission to visit area 1, which includes the back yard, barn and extends southwest into the adjacent field. BM Paris (officially 1351 feet) is located between two garages just behind the house, but the very highest ground is the steep ramp that has been built up for access to the west side of the barn. The highest natural area in this contour appears to be southwest from the barn along the field margin. Both of these areas are much higher than BM Paris. A hand level check of the smaller contour out in the field to the south (areas 2) indicates it is much lower than area 1.

From the driveway, continue east for 0.1 mile to Walker Avenue. Head north just a short distance and park in the access drive of a radio tower. Cross the road and hike northwest across the bean and corn field. Head for the electric transmission towers sitting on the top of the hill. The highest spot of area 3 is directly under the high voltage lines just south from the towers. This is the spot elevation site (1354 feet) shown on the topo map. A hand level check of area 1 to the south was inconclusive in determining which contour is higher.

one area in section 27-18N-6W (1,350+ ft)

To visit area 4, drive 1.1 miles east on Route 153 from the tiny hamlet of Freeburg, or drive west 1.3 miles on Route 153 from the Route 183 - Route 153 intersection, to the Pleasant Valley Golf Club. Turn north and drive to the clubhouse and pro shop. Ask the pro at the clubhouse for permission to visit the 16th tee, which is just a few hundred feet northwest from the building. The ground has obviously been built up and squared off when they made the tee, but it is also the highest spot around. Pleasant moderate views in all directions.
