Trumbull County High Point Trip Report

Trautman Hill (1280+ ft)

Date: April 1, 2000

From Biggin Corners on OH 88 (1.3 miles west of state line), go SW 0.8 miles to left turn at Milligan East Road. The road crests at 1.8 miles, and I started hiking southeast from there. I was quickly stopped by the landowner, riding an ATV.

There had been vandalism involving gunshots the night before, and he was very suspicious. When I explained my intentions, he relaxed and told me he had just bought the land, and knew it was the highest point in the county. He invited me to drive further along Milligan East Road to his driveway, located at a blue shed (#8372), about another half-mile further east and south. I parked by his house, and we walked to the high point together.

He was quite pleased that someone came all the way from NJ to visit the high point. I told him that others might visit the high point, and they will definitely be welcome. I would suggest driving up to his house and getting permission, rather than trying a stealth approach, which is pretty well blocked by other landowners, and as the high point is in view of his house. Owner's name is Mickey Saum.
