Ellis County High Point Trip Report

four points on Goodwin quadrangle (three at 2,580+ feet and one with BM 2,584 ft)

Date: August 27, 2001
Author: Bill Schuler

Zero odometer at the junction of 46 and 51/60 in Arnett, Oklahoma.

Road Log:

0.0 miles   Go West on Highway 51/60
5.9 miles   Highway 283 junction - go straight
11.2 miles   Railroad track over-crossing
11.6 miles   Road turnout on the right - park here.
This point is 1.0 mile east of the Texas / Oklahoma boundary.

I checked out both sides of the highway. The high point seems to be near an old tar tank. Further leveling showed that the RR bridge was higher (man-made) and an area just south seemed to be a high natural spot. I checked it out, of course. Leveling back to my car, showed that area being higher. Shows how the level can fool you in flat country. I never found the BM along the RR grade.
