Gilliam County High Point Trip Report

Date: August 20, 2000
Author: Bob Packard

I took Lonerock Road, then took Lost Valley Rd (paved for a while then dirt). Parked at 3,580 ft about a mile NE of Gilliam-Wheeler County Line on Lonerock Quad, which county line is not marked on the road by the way. I checked it out. NW part of Section 3.

At that point was a locked gate, a sign saying Private Property, No Unauthorized Hunting and a sign saying Lost Valley School Site, Placed by Gilliam County Historical Society. Walked ranch roads and bushwhacked to get to the 2 of the 3 mentioned points which have a chance at being the HP. I'll give the nod to the 4290 point where or near where a ranch road crosses the county line. That little 4280+ point just to the E is lower. That "+" is not more than 2 feet, probably no more than 1 foot.

Statistics: 3 hours, 7 miles, 1,200 feet elevation gain.
