Lincoln County High Point Trip Report

unnamed area (3,400+ ft)

From Rogers Peak I drove west to Tillamook, then south on US 101 to Hebo, then east on SR 22 to Grand Ronde, then west on SR 18 to Murphy Road. (I apologize for not keeping mileage records but there is a reason - my 4Runner has oversized tires, so my mileages are very different from the truth.) I had preset a GPS way point for the junction to Murphy Road, so it was very easy to locate. The gate was wide open, but there was a sign indicating that it was open to the public from sometime in October through November 27. I had been hoping to take advantage of hunting season for this HP, and sure enough it worked! I followed Murphy Road to the vicinity of the western HP, then followed the topozone printout (very accurate!) to the end of the road closely east from the summit - the GPS said 0.1 mile.

The tangle of young trees was certainly true, but I found an apparent game trail that got me through the smaller trees to the remaining old growth that covers the summit area, at which point the walking became very easy. There were two candidate points, one south of the other. Somehow I managed to find the same passage back to the rig. Then I drove to near the summit of the 3,401-foot point and hiked the short remaining distance. The views here were very nice considering the location in the Coast Range.
