Wheeler County High Point Trip Report

I drove the back roads to shortcut the route to Spanish Peak - east on FR42 to a rather awkward intersection with a left jog to FR12, then east to FR38, then east to the junction with FR1250 where I connected with Ken Jones' route from US26. Several weeks ago it was reported here that Wheeler and Grant counties' HPs were closed due to fire danger, but I read on the Internet that Strawberry Mountain had been reopened, so I was hoping Spanish Peak had been too. Indeed the 4-Runner gobbled up the wide-open road to the summit and a great view of some nearby terrain and of the incredible haze from Oregon's gargantuan Coast Range fire, among others.
