Allegheny County High Point Trip Report

spot elevation 1/2 mile north of River Hill on Monongahela 7.5' quadrangle (1,401 ft)

Date: August 19, 2000

The Monongahela City Bridge shown on the topo no longer exists and has been replaced with a modern bridge carrying PA 136 over the Monongahela River about 1/4 mile east. This makes the position of the approach roads shown on the topo deceptive. From the northern end of the new bridge, go west on Bunola River Road for 0.2 miles, to a sharp right onto River Hill Road. At 1.1 miles, turn right onto Manown Road. Park at 1.4 miles, where a chained gravel road goes left, straight up the hill, paralleling the asphalt driveway of #2435 Manown Road for the first 100 feet. The hilltop is crowned by two fenced- in water tanks and a cellular phone tower.
