Cambria County Highpoint Trip Report

This updates my March 2000 report. Take PA 869 northwest from Pavia 5.1 miles to the State Game Lands
parking lot on the left (south) side of the road. The lot is 0.2 mile west of the Cambria/Bedford County line.
If the gate is unlocked, you can drive in one mile to an open area with a locked metal gate and room to park
on the right. That gate is located where the road shown on the topo crosses the 2,780-foot contour.
Take the road beyond the locked gate, which soon becomes a wide grassy path, which contours around the
upper reaches of the drainage and eventually runs northeast of and parallel to the ridge containing the
highpoint contour. The path crests just north of the 2860-foot contour in Bedford County, then goes
another 0.16 mile northwest to its closest approach to the highpoint contour, which is then 0.10 mile mostly
west of the path. The bushwhack to the flattish summit is not too bad. GPS recommended.
