Indiana County High Point Trip Report

2 miles northwest of Robinson on Chestnut Ridge (2,160+ ft)

Date: March 3, 2000
Author: Michael Schwartz

Take US 22 about three miles east from the US 119 junction, and turn right onto Chestnut Ridge Road, marked by a street sign. The Delorme Atlas shows Chestnut Ridge Road 3 miles further west, but do not be deceived. Follow the route on Chestnut Ridge Road very carefully on the topo to ensure making all the correct turns. At about two miles south of US 22, the road makes a sharp right turn to the northwest. This is the closest approach to the high point, but the way is blocked by a fenced, active cattle pasture. Drive another 0.2 miles further, and park alongside the woods to the north of hill 2085. Bushwhack through the short patch of woods, reach the fence, and circle the pasture counterclockwise to reach the col between hill 2085 and hill 2160+. Bushwhack to the high point at the far end of the hill. You may cross another derelict barbed wire fence on hill 2160+. Avoid a crawl under by walking a few paces west to the fence's end. This walk is about a mile each way. The dirt road shown on the topo passing closer to the east of hill 2160+ looked like it descended into a shabby neighborhood and a lot of fenced private property. The walk as described is totally out of view of private homes.
