Jefferson County High Point Trip Report

3/4 mile WNW of Vineyard Point (2,160+ ft)
From the junction of PA 28 and US 219 in Brockway, go west 2.7 miles to Game School Road. Zero
odometer. Take Game School Road north and west for 3.5 miles, where a paved road forks right through
a large stone gate. Turn right at 4.5 miles onto Empire Ridge Road, which ends almost immediately at a
locked gate. Hike up the gravel road, pass microwave tower, then take first good dirt road right. Stay on
better dirt road at all forks, continuing to the summit crest. Highest ground is within view of the road.

USGS BM Jeff (2,160+ ft)
On PA 36, 0.9 miles NW of the Jefferson/Indiana County line, make sharp right onto a mixed
macadam/dirt road. Go to crest at 1.6 miles. This is a reclaimed strip mine. Couple of knobs at the crest
are candidates for highest ground. I spent about ten minutes unsuccessfully looking for BM Jeff. Note
that the clearly higher ground just to the east is in Clearfield County. Alternate approach: Turnoff from
PA 36 is 8.3 miles west of the PA 36/US 119 junction in Punxsutawny, of Groundhog Day fame.
