spot elevation on Stony Mtn 1 1/2 miles northwest of Gold Mine (1,651 ft)

Date: March 19, 2000
Author: Michael Schwartz

From PA 325 take Gold Mine Road south 1.3 miles to Dauphin/Schuylkill County line, reach Dauphin/Lebanon County line at 1.8 miles, and to a pullout and gated dirt road on the right at 2.5 miles. Note USGS BM 1295 across the road on a three foot concrete pillar. Hike dirt road until fork and sign, "Gold Mine--1." Bear right, and when dirt road seems to have crested and gotten as close to the mountain as it's going to get, bushwhack directly toward and up the mountain. Once on top, go west on flat ridge, which eventually climbs substantially for the first time to rocky knoll with cairn. Round trip from car to summit took about 1:30. For access from the south, the parking area is 4.4 miles north of PA 443.
