Sullivan County High Point Trip Report

(former) lookout tower on North Mtn (2,585 ft)

Date: April 25, 2000
Author: Michael Schwartz

From the PA 42/US 220 junction in Beech Glen, go 1.1 miles SE on PA42 to a left turn onto Pritz Road. Go uphill to Champion Road. Make a right, then a quick left, onto a nondescript dirt road with two entrances. This road is gated (may be locked) at the 1.3 mile point. Climb steadily up the mountain, turn back sharp left at a hairpin turn, and pass over the shoulder of spot elevation 2576. The road then dips, climbs, and forks left uphill to the summit at 4.8 miles. Reference benchmark #1 is in the concrete step of a cabin, and reference mark #2 is found at the high ground at the base of the defunct tower.

Note: The approach from the east shown in De Lorme, via Shingle Mill and Plots Creeks Roads is not practical, as the road (signed as Fishing Creek Road) is gated at SR 2003, several miles east of the summit.
