Coming from the west, i.e. Hartford, take I-384 off I-84 (Exit 59) in East Hartford. Follow about ten miles or so out to Bolton, where the expressway ends. Take US 44 east, a two-lane road across 30 miles or so of minimally populated farm and country towns with few traffic lights, to the junction with CT 101 just past hamlet of Abington. Go straight ahead and you are now on 101.

Continue ten miles, past I-395 and East Killingly, as the road steadily climbs, to unsigned RI state line (note pavement change and wider road just past State Line camp). Within a mile, road will level out and you will arrive at radio tower on left. If this is an open date, this is the place to park and there is ample room. If not, keep going and come back when it is.

Walk back on the level driveway to actual highpoint, bearing left away from house, through about 500 feet of pleasant white pine-dominant forest, to clearing with shed and port-a-potty. Foot-high rock that is at the absolute top of the state of Rhode Island is just to the right in woods as you enter. Consider for a moment how fortunate you are to be allowed to be here. Sign the register if one is available. Take pictures. Savor the moment.
