York County High Point Trip Report

Henry Knob

Date: November 16, 2000
Author: Edward Earl

This one is privately owned, but the owner, Amanda Owens, is very friendly and hospitable. She does, however, request advance notice and can be reached at 704-504-9121. On SC 55 between Bethany and Clover, turn north on Henry Knob Road and make an immediate right on a gravel road, which climbs gradually. The owner lives in the second house on the right, which is some distance up the road and has a carport next to it. On the way we passed through two gates which were open, but I don't know if they are always open. Beyond the owner's house the road climbs some more and continues to a radio tower. We parked here and headed on foot sharply to the right, slightly uphill to the HP, which has a few worn trails and picnic tables left over from a state park. It is possible to cut some walking distance by stopping before the tower, but only if you know exactly where to do so.

The owner recently married and is in the process of moving to NC. She plans to sell Henry Knob, but the primary prospective buyer is also very friendly and hospitable.
