York County High Point Trip Report

Henry Knob (1,120+ ft)

Date: December 18, 2002
Authors: Trapper Robbins & Roxanne Everett

We were not able to get in touch with Amanda Owens. The phone number in previous trip reports did not work (yes, we tried the new area code, too). We did find an "Amanda Owens" in the county (by calling Information) but her husband had no idea what we were talking about, had never heard of Henry Knob, etc. We strongly suspect the property has changed hands, as anticipated in previous reports.

The gravel road is now gated and negatively signed at the bottom. We parked on the other side of the paved road, away from the gated area, went cross-country a short distance, and hit the dirt road. We did not follow the dirt road all the way to the top. Instead, at the first switchback (after the first house, which appeared unoccupied), we went right (east) on a power line cut. After about 100 yards, another power line cut branches left (north) up VERY steeply to the tower and HP area. This route is short and fast but has a very steep section. (Also, there are several power lines going to the tower on top so be sure you take the correct one when descending.)
