Campbell County High Point Trip Report

Date: June 2000
Author: Ken Oeser

I called Premium Coal Company, owners of Flag Pole mountain, highpoint of both Campbell and Anderson counties, TN. I was forwarded to a nice man who says that the road to the top (from Briceville) is open to visitors. He says if the gate is open, it is OK to drive up (as Fred and Mike did). If the gate is closed, one has to hike up. He says sometimes they leave the gate open on weekends, sometimes they don't. He said the typical "If someone gets hurt, it is their own responsibility" in his own words, which is fine with me. He also stated that the coal company will be shut down over July 4th and the weekend preceding it, so no coal trucks will be on the road. I found the gate closed on an earlier attempt, and nobody was around, so I returned home and called the phone number on the sign at the bottom. I'm glad to know there is no access problem to this highpoint.
