Franklin County High Point Trip Report

Date: July 30, 2000
Author: Mike Beavers

The house next to the fire tower that Andy Martin mentioned in his report is now empty. The second highpoint is a microwave tower not far from the fire tower. The microwave tower appears to be on lower ground than the fire tower. I could not tell for sure because there is not a direct line of site between the two. I think that I will revisit these two high points this winter and see if the microwave tower is actually sitting on lower ground. If it is it can be eliminated, leaving only two high points for Franklin Co.

The other high point is in a gentleman's backyard. I think that he is the one that Andy mentioned in his report. He still has his dog and the dog was very friendly this time. I had a very interesting conversation with this gentleman. He said that my son and I were the 5th or 6th people that has stopped at his house and wanted to walk in is backyard. (He did not have a problem with us going into his backyard.) He also said that he thought the true high point was at the fire tower. We talked for about 30 minutes, though I didn't catch his name -- he is a veteran of WWII and he served in the Third Army under General Patton.
