Hamilton County Highpoint Trip Report

two points on Lookout Mtn about 0.1 mile apart

As for my trip, the Lookout BM is on the opposite side of the road from the house Brennan Connelly mentions on Bragg Avenue (I did not think to get the street address) in the yard.

The water tower was being sandblasted and painted when I arrived and there were workman hanging off it so, unfortunately, I was not “the highest” person in Hamilton County but I was able to walk around inside the fence before they ran me off.

This is my home county so I could go on and on about it but I’ll just say if it’s views you are after then try Point Park on East Brow Road ($3 park entry fee, unless you sneak in early in the morning) for views to the north and east and of the city. Sunset Rock on West Brow – there is a VERY small parking area on West Brow and you walk down to this popular rock climbing spot for views to the north and west. If you are visiting, I recommend riding the historic Incline Railway (“the worlds most amazing half mile”) to the top and walking to the HP which is not far.

If you’d rather see nature and hoof it, you can park at the Chattanooga Nature Center and hike to the top of Lookout via Sunset Rock and then walk through the neighborhood to the HP - but this would be an all-day affair.

Also in the area are Rock City and Ruby Falls. This area abounds with tourist traps. Make a weekend out of it.
