Hawkins County High Point Trip Report

Chimneytop Mtn (3,118 ft)

Date: November 3, 2002
Author: Fred Lobdell

We followed Ken Oeser's trip report and found it to be quite accurate and helpful. We have only a couple of minor additions. Where Ken says, "Follow this gravel road . . ." the road is called Nelse Roberts Road. It is shown on the DeLorme as Roberts Road.

The hike begins by crossing private property past a house and barn, so it is necessary to ask permission. We found the property owner to be quite amenable to hiking requests, and he told us that he gets quite a few such requests. At the summit we found reference markers "Chimney No. 2" and "Chimney No. 3", but were unable to find either BM Chimney or Chimney No. 1. We suspect that the BM was originally located under the small tower.
