Jefferson County High Point Trip Report

Date: April 24, 2002
Author: Bob Packard

Referring to Ken Oeser's report, I got to parking spot near the burned-out house with a chimney standing (it was being demolished when I returned) up above English Mountain Retreat and Condo area. Walked up the rock garden road to a ridge, turned left and picked up ATV trail-road leading up to English Mountain, turned left again on gravel road which led to summit with radio tower and a look-out tower.

Metal stakes painted dark blue and at very summit an unused telephone pole, English BM with witness. Between the look-out and the summit was Tennessee Mountain Management marker. On return climbed up the knoll just southwest of the look-out area as it looked as if it might have a contour missing on the map.

Used a track short cut from this knoll down to Split Gap which had been suggested by Kevin Williamson, but which I hadn't seen on the way up.

Trip statistics: 2.25 hours, 5 miles, 1100 feet of elevation gain.
