Lake County High Point Trip Report

Date: June 11, 1999

This county has 2 areas of 320'+ only a mile from the Mississippi river. I'm not sure how this high ground got here - perhaps from the New Madrid earthquake? In any case the western of the two areas is right in someone's front yard. The BM is on top of a pipe.

The house in the eastern area is abandoned, and I strolled briefly around the yard. Left a register by an abandoned car. Not the most scenic HP, but a lot prettier in my eyes than Pemiscot County (where the author couldn't complete the "ascent").

After visiting the Lake County HP I was uncertain how to get back across the river. I spoke with some men working on an AC unit (luckily for them it was on the shady side of the house on this torrid day) and they said the Hickman toll ferry was recently opened up again, so I used it to cross back to MO.
