Sequatchie County Highpoint Trip Report

Raven Cliff, Harvey Bench Mark (one of three high points for Sequatchie County)

Date: April 1, 2000
Author: Mike Beavers

From Soddy-Daisy TN take Highway 111 North continue on 111 until you reach Lewis Chapel Road. Turn Right on 111 and go approximately 2 miles on Lewis Chapel Road to Raven Cliffs Road. Turn left on Raven Cliffs Road and go approximately 2 more miles. (Note: Raven Cliffs road makes a sharp right turn in front of a sign saying Raven Cliffs subdivision.) On the right side of the road you will see an old logging road going off into the woods. (I had to park here because my truck is not 4 wheel drive.)

Walk up the old logging road until you reach a very large mud puddle then immediately after the mud puddle the road bends off to the left. From this point you have two options.

Option 1: Continue walking up the logging road until it intersect a 4 wheeler trail near the bluffs. Then turn right and walk until you get to the highest point on the trail. Then take off into the pine thicket away form the cliffs and continue going up hill. After about 200 feet the land levels out and you enter what could almost be called a clearing after all the pine trees and black berry vines. The high point is in this area also, the Harvey Bench Mark is here barely above ground level.

Option 2: After you reach the get around the mud puddle you can see the start of another very over grown logging road bearing off to the right. Follow this trail/road until it intersects the 4 wheeler trail near the cliffs. Then continue on until you find the high point of the 4 wheeler trail then take off away from the cliffs into the woods looking for the high point. Using this option you come out of the woods very near the high point. The disadvantage is that this way is very overgrown.

There are some fairly nice views of the Sequatchie Valley from the cliffs in the Winter. I now have two of the high points for Sequatchie County and have one more to go.
