Bowie County High Point Trip Report

I see more than one indication that the county line has moved and the 490+ foot closed contour is now in Red River County.

First indication: all the signs on US 82 are 0.2 mile east of what the map indicates.

Second indication: the old man who owns the house said he is in Red River county. He has owned property there for 40 years and they move the county line and he gets a bill from Red River county for back taxes. He wasn't happy about that.

I was using a sketch map derived from topozone, so I visited one of the 480+ foot HP areas, but missed at least two other HP areas.

The coHP areas are (33° 33' 49" N, 94° 44' 25" W), (33° 34' 5" N, 94° 44' 19" W) and (33° 33' 1" N, 94° 44'18" W) - south of US 82. If the county line is at least 94° 44' 30" W then there is a liner at 33° 33' 51" N. If the county line is at least 94° 44' 35" W then another 480+ foot contour gets included, at 33° 33' 31" N. If the county line is at least 94° 44' 36" W (not likely), then the 490+ foot closed contour is a liner, at 33° 33' 53" N.

Bring a GPS and start by measuring at the US 82 highway signs. My guess is that the county line is about 94° 44' 30" W.
