Caldwell County Highpoint Trip Report

one area (730+ ft)

Date: March 30, 2004

This cohp is on the vast Nicholson Ranch. The portion of the ranch with the cohp can be reached from Delhi, which is on TX 304 north of I10 exit 642. From Delhi, drive west on FM713 about 5 miles to CR158, the Taylorsville Road, on the right leading north. On the south side of FM713, across from the Taylorsville Road, find an iron gate, which may or may not be locked.

When we were there, the gate was unlocked, with the open lock hanging on a chain. In such cases we hesitate to drive in. So I walked south less than a mile to a group of buildings. There I met Teri Baranowski. When she found that Dotty was waiting in our truck at the gate, she insisted on driving me back and asked her to come in.

Back at the buildings we met husband Jim. We said we would like to walk to the cohp, which was on the obvious hill less than a mile southeast. However, Jim said he would prefer to drive us to the hp. This he did, taking his truck on roads, tracks, and rough "no tracks" to get to the top at the obvious hp.
