Cache County High Point Trip Report

The drive on US Hwy. 89 can be done from the Bear Lake area, or from Logan. The well-signed turnoff to Tony Grove Lake is at virtual milepost 393.8. After turning toward the campground, another immediate left puts you on the paved road to the lake (signed as 7 miles). Stay on this road to the parking loop at its end; if it is not too crowded you do not need to extend your walk by parking in the back-country lot or at the campground down the road.

This well-marked and well-maintained trail heads off through meadows loaded with a variety of flowers, notably columbines and a peach/pink penstemon. It soon comes to a fork with a large billboard-type sign. Go left, following the signs to Naomi Peak. All the junctions were signed. You always bear left at junctions. We ran into some snow up on the ridge where you leave the maintained trail and head to the summit, but nothing steep or dangerous.

Total trip is about 8 miles round trip with 2000' of gain. We were on top in 2-1/4 hours, with an 8-year- old in the party.
