Piute County High Point Trip Report

Delano Peak

Date: September 3, 2001

Directions in "High in Utah" (HIU) were very accurate. Much deadfall and man-made tree-fall made for a rather ugly and annoying first portion. I hiked to the second of two footbridges as described in HIU, then made my way up cross-country up a pair of drainage areas to below point 11,815. Game trails helped in places. Finally, Delano Peak came into view. Stayed high on the ridge and found a good short trail up the steep scree section, past a false summit and up to the real thing. The sign is gone, but the register remains. Took me 3 hours up, 1.75 down. Beautiful views, and never saw a soul. A map is essential. Although the top bit is treeless, pay attention to landmarks.
