Sevier County Highpoint Trip Report

Fishlake Hightop (11,633 ft)

Date: July 4, 2004
Authors: Charlie and Diane Winger

The Pelican Canyon Trail turnoff road is located on U-25, 11.8 miles from the intersection of U-25 with U-24. Drive along the lake, then turn left onto the dirt road. The trailhead is located at "Pelican Promontory", at the end of the dirt road.

Consider camping someplace other than at one of the campgrounds. They love RV's but are not sure what to do with "car campers". We found only two bathrooms in the campground where we stayed, and they were a long way from where we camped. The 4th of July weekend probably wasn't a good choice for visiting this area.

We didn't have any problem following the trail. In the few spots where the trail wasn't obvious, the cairns were abundant. The boulder where the summit register is located appears to be lower than an adjacent boulder. Scramble over to the one that looks higher before someone decides you haven't reached the true "highpoint"!

It took us 3 hours to reach the top and 2 hours to return to the parking area.
