Tooele County Highpoint Trip Report

Deseret Peak (11,031 ft)

Date: June 30, 2004
Authors: Charlie and Diane Winger

An excellent trail with outstanding summit views.

The turn into the campground road is located 6 miles from Grantsville and 12 miles from St. John. We measured 5.0 miles after leaving the highway to the road fork mention in HIU. Continue straight ahead at this 4-way junction. The right fork goes to Median Flat and the left fork heads down to the creek. From the junction it was 2.0 miles to the Mill Fork trailhead located at the far end of the Loop Campground. Park here. The signed Mill Fork trail leaves from across the road at this point.

Hike up the trail to the point where you cross Mill Creek. Immediately turn left (downstream) and walk a very short distance to the signed Deseret Peak Trail junction. Take the left fork and follow the trail to the summit.

There was a $6 fee for "camping and picnicking". It didn't mention peakbagging.

It took us 3 hours to reach the highpoint and 2 hours to return to the parking area.
