Danville City Highpoint Identity
Date: December 2014
Author: Adam Helman
City boundaries have expanded south, with the
previous set of fourteen 660+ foot areas no longer supporting the highest ground.
The traditional USGS topographic chart does not display this shift.
There are two new candidate highpoints, both 700+ foot areas on the North Carolina border -
- Candidate one
at WGS84 (36.54190° N, 79.44610° W)
- Candidate two
at WGS84 (36.54240° N, 79.43950° W)
Reports numbered 1 through 3 are thus no longer relevant, yet are retained for historical and personal interest.
To comprehend them, here are the fourteen 660+ foot areas as numbered in the reports (and previously at this website).
The WGS84 datum is used throughout.
