Goochland County Highpoint Trip Report

There have been a couple of changes to the area since previous reports. I will use Dale Millsap's numbering scheme, although not his order.

Parked at the intersection of 250 and 646. Found the 507 BM near the road set in concrete. Walked diagonally up through the woods to the HP of #1.

From the same parking place, cross 250 and walk along the edge of the field to area #4. HP just at woods line. Eyeballing indicates it is higher than #3.

The driveway described for point #2 no longer goes through. You will have to go around (which is not difficult).

Back north on 250. What the topo shows as 653 is signed as 604. Take this to the 502 spot elevation where it will intersect with 653. This is Three Chopt Road, although it is not signed here. At 683 (Parrish Road, but only signed on I-64!), turn left and park at the "top" of the hill. A lot of the area closer to I-64 is clearly manmade/enhanced and the HP looks to be on the southeast side of the road.

Walk along 683 if you are so inclined toward #6. It is obviously lower than #5.

From #5, look toward #2. It is quite clearly higher than #5. Easy walk through the open field. Leveling shows it is higher than #4.

Back into car continuing southeast on 653. Pass a gate on the left and park under the small power line. Walk perpendicular to 653 into the woods to point #9.

#7 is at the crossroads. I thought the HP was under a very large oak tree. Could not find either BM.

I concur with Ryan Bowles that the HP of #8 was in the pasture. Leveling from directly across 250 from the 525 BM location showed that #8 was lower than less than the HP of #7.

No idea which point is highest but feel that if you were to visit areas #1, #2, #9, and #7 you could call this one.
