Norton City High Point Trip Report

on city line 1/2 mile north of Intermont Girl Scout Camp (3,960+ ft)

Date: November 15, 2000
Author: Mike Schwartz

This is the highest of the VA independent city high points by a 1000-foot margin.

See approach details in my Wise County report. From the point where FR 238 turns right at the 4.3 mile mark from US 23 to go to High Knob, continue straight ahead and turn left after 0.5 miles onto FR 238C, then continue straight ahead where FR 238B bears left. Park just before the gate at 1.2 miles. Bushwhack straight up the ridge, maybe 200' above, and once on the ridge line, hike north a short distance to the National Forest boundary sign that marks the city line and the liner high point. The ridge has been partially cleared, and the parking area is visible from the crest.
