Salem City Highpoint Trip Report

The directions from Mike Schwartz and Fred Lobdell got us to the house
overlooking the highpoint. Once there, we spoke with Mr. an Mrs. Mattox who
were fixing the house for new tenants. They own the house and a few others on
this knoll and were pleased to learn that they owned access to the highpoint.
We spoke at length and they invited us to use the 4WD road around the back to
access this liner.
Driving through a very overgrown road, we were eventually stopped by saplings
and, thrashing through the woods, we gave it our best effort. It is possible to
avoid the house altogether by parking at the bottom of the driveway and bearing
right around the edge of the grassy area, following the old road.
We returned to speak with the Mattox’s again and left them a copy of the
topographical map. They are willing to accept future visitors but be advised
that folks living there in the future may need an introduction.
