Shenandoah County High Point Trip Report

I drove to Wolf Gap on the VA-WV line NW of Front Royal, VA. Hiked the Mill Trail to the summit of Mill Mountain (3,293 ft). Good well-established trail, rocky in places. Found the footings mentioned by Mike Schwartz in his fine report, as well as multiple trunk (oak) tree at highest ground. Shack nearby. Rained hard all way to top, used umbrella.

On way back (no rain) went up spur trail to Big Schloss (2,964 ft) with wooden bridge over last slot. Bridge not needed as all it did was change a class 2 to a class 1. Area famous for rock climbing practice. Also went up point 2910 at the extreme southwest end of North Mountain.

Trip statistics: 5.75 hours, 12 miles, 2000 feet of gain.
