The surface mining described since late 2001 continues apace. The operation is run by Iluka Resources, Inc., and is mining the sand which contains titanium-rich ore.

We took the road west from CR 619 shown as starting at BM 253, which was not found. The two track road shown heading north over the southern area is still there and the old mailboxes remain, although the houses are gone. The southern bump is still there, on seemingly natural ground. From there the road runs on an embankment created by the mining operation and passes a bit west of the former middle area, which is gone. With some difficulty, we followed the old road around the mine to the processing facility and parking lot, which sit on obvious high ground -- the northern area. From there, a paved road leads east back to CR 619.
