Orange County High Point Trip Report

Butterfield Mtn (3,167 ft)

Date: August 13, 2003
Authors: Trapper Robbins and Roxanne Everett

We used Jay's good route and bushwhack description. The only addition we have is that we parked down at the junction where the road goes right uphill and walked about 1.3 miles to the high point in the road where the bushwhack starts. In hindsight, we both felt that we could have driven a passenger car most (or all) of the way to this point.

We were the 2nd register entries this year. Lots of moose sign on this route and several of the register entries were from hunters or people gathering antlers.

Signal and Butterfield are two of the harder VT cohps. They are rarely climbed and if you are not used to eastern bushwhacking, you may find them tedious.

Round trip including road walk was approximately 5 miles with 1,400 feet of gain.
