Adams County High Point Trip Report

This highpoint is at the top of Skyline Ski Area on the top of Friendship Mound, just outside of the "twin cities" of Adams/Friendship. From Hwy. 13 traveling north, go through both towns and follow the curve of Hwy. 13 over the dam that forms picturesque Friendship Lake (which you can't really see from this spot). Just north of the dam, turn left on Moundview Dr. Make the first right north on 13th Ct., following the Skyline Ski Area sign. This road dead-ends in several miles at the ski area which also has a year-round restaurant and bar. You can see the entire ridge line from the parking lot and proprietor, Carol, acknowledged knowing the ski area was the county highpoint. She gave permission for me to hike the ridge and directed me to the easiest route which is higher than it first seems. I believe the highest point to be near the top of the double chair lift. I walked the narrowing ridge to the northwest to the very high fire tower as well to be sure and also to the other end which has a high mound where there is a large star bolted to the rocks. Although heavily wooded, great views are to be had here and one can see the Baraboo Bluffs and pastoral views as this ridge is several hundred feet higher than the rest of the land nearby.
