Marathon County High Point Trip Report

Date: July 2001
Author: Jon Mann

I had been looking forward to this one for quite a while, after reading all the descriptions of the summit rock, and the dispute over whether Rib Mountain should be listed higher than Sugarbush Hill. Rib Mountain looms impressively over the surrounding countryside. I took the road up to the top, and located the summit rock, complete with sign indicating elevation 1940' (1 foot higher than Sugarbush). I also would like to note that the State Park pamphlets from both Blue Mound and Rib Mt.State Parks call Rib Mountain the third highest point in Wisconsin, after Timm's and Pearson's Hills. The rock itself proved fairly easy to climb, although I just put my hand on the top.

Trip Statistics: 10 min duration, 20 ft gain, 100 feet distance.
