Sawyer County High Point Trip Report

Meteor Hill - USGS Ruch (1,801 ft) and one area 300 ft ENE (1,800+ ft)

I opted for the southern approach, rather than the eastern approach described on the USGS Ruch data sheet. Either will work, but the southern approach is shorter.

From the junction of WI 48/CR C at Meteor, not much more than a crossroads, continue west 1.8 miles on WI 48 to a crest. Just past house #14108W on the right, park on the shoulder.

The jeep trail shown on the topo passes the house (nobody home this date), but you can bushwhack left 200 feet to avoid the house and pick up the road a bit north. Walk generally north on the wide grassy road, more downhill than uphill, curve a bit to the east, and reach a cable across the road. Just past there, turn right on a fainter woods road that heads uphill. This is probably the one shown on the topo, except that it passes right over the summit. I presume it could be followed east to spot elevation 1709 feet. BM Ruch is adjacent to the left side of the road, marked by an old wooden post. Easily bushwhacked east-northeast to the eastern bump, and I could not determine which was higher. 40 minutes round trip.
