Note to group members,

While there is some snow to cross on an ascent of Mount Daniel, I will
emphasize that it is not a technical mountaineering ascent if done via the
easiest route during late summer.

Jack Parsell, one of the original highpointers who attended the first club convention in Arizoa, has passed. Jack was famed for his tripoint and low point books and was a bright light in the club as he attended almost every convention.

John C. Parsell 1921 - 2015
John C. Jack Parsell, 93, of Hamlin Street, formerly of Beaver Falls, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the family cottage at Knobby Knoll, while under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Mr. Parsell was born on August 14, 1921, in Auburn, NY, a son of Alfred P. and Amy Van Winkle Parsell, Sr. He graduated from Auburn High School and from Syracuse University, College of Forestry in 1943. Mr. Parsell was a chemical engineer for J.P. Lewis then Boise Cascade Paper Mill, Beaver Falls, NY, for forty-six years retiring in 1985.
On July 10, 1954, he married Joyce Smith in the chapel at the First Presbyterian Church in Watertown.
Mr. Parsell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Watertown, the United Presbyterian Church, Sackets Harbor and a former member of the United Methodist Church, Beaver Falls. He was a volunteer for fifty-one years with the Snow Ridge Ski Patrol. Mr. Parsell was an EMT for Lewis County Search and Rescue Squad where he volunteered and was an instructor. As a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, he climbed the highest peaks in all fifty states. Mr. Parsell and his wife were world travelers; visiting all continents except Antarctica and skiing throughout Europe and the United States.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, canoeing, tumbling and faceting gems and was a Ham Radio operator with the call sign-K2DAJ.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter: Susan Bennett, Olathe, KS, two grandchildren and their spouses; Jeffrey and Andrea Bennett, Overland Park, KS and Jennifer and Jason Grindel, Olathe, KS, four great grandchildren; Nicole, Jacob, Allie and Paxton, a nephew: Steven Parsell, Oxnard, CA, two cousins; Betsy Donald, Moravia, NY and Diane Slater, Seneca Falls. A son; Tommy, as a child, and a brother; Alfred P. Parsell, Jr. died before him.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 am in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Fred Garry, officiating. Burial will be at 2pm in the Riverside Annex Cemetery, Beaver Falls, NY with Reverend Melody Long, officiating. Arrangements are with D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc.
