At abtou that same time, I couldn't get into COHP.org for a day.

I wonder if there was something related there? It gave me a weird screen
with error messages. I rebooted, all sorts of things; nothing.....

Next day it went away. Ah well, computers are notoriously annoying
devices...

Heading out of my rock climbing class month+ of intense activity, and into
my month+ of heavy backpacking activity. The former was Colo Mtn Club Trad
Lead Climbing School, wherein we learn Multi-Pitch Lead Climbing
technique. The latter will be some Colo Trail segments, a train ride from
Durango for Pigeon & Turret, 2 scrambly 13ers in the San Juans, a Crested
Butte to Aspen loop hike, and a week of climbing CA 14ers in the Palisades,
with fellow cohp enthusiasts Jobe Wymore, James Graham, Gerry Roach, and
Dave Pellegrini.

Colorado weather has become a bit less rainy than the first half of the
summer, only minor afternoon thunderstorms now. Saw Michael Franti at Red
Rocks last night, got about 20 drops of rain on us during the finale and
that was all. He came out into the lines while we stood to get in and sang
to the crowd, wandered all over the venue while performing via wireless
technology, and had about 20 children come up from the audience and sing &
dance with him for the Sunshine song. Too cool... If you have never seen
a concert at Red Rocks, put in on your life bucket list with climbing
Denali and Grand Teton....

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by wildfires, especially Trapper &
Roxanne, who are a few miles from flames in Stehekin at the far end of Lake
Chelan in WA. Seems the flames have torched the approach to high camp we
took to Mt Goode two years ago.

It will be interesting to see what comes of the bulldozed cuts made near
Little Blue Ridge on Yolo CA. Along with 2 others about 4 years ago, I was
thwarted by rain and had to turn back a few hundred yards from our goal.
Sounds crazy, but we were wearing jeans to mitigate the intense brush, and
did not have rain pants with us, and were all becoming hypothermic, so we
bailed. Also, we could see a hundred feet in the dense fog, and the way to
the top was not obvious to us. Lessons learned.....

I have an EXTENSIVE list of failures. I can only hope I have learned from
them.

Sure was great to see so many county highpointers at the Iowa Konvention a
few weeks ago! Roy Wallen will put together a nice writeup for the next
Highpointers Club newsletter, with photos. You're all HPC members,
right?....

Dave (be thinking of Edward this weekend; there will be a memorial service
for him in his brother's hometown of Livingston MT) Covill
