### Hesperus is higher. I thought John M & I had settled that one.....
We took an expensive surveyors level we had borrowed up Hesperus,
triangulated to the surrounding peaks, brought the relative angle data back
in to the shop and they computed altitudes based on map-measured distances,
and they all came out perfectly. The issue is Lavender is mis-mapped,
similar to East Crestone; contours are missing.

We were unable to get over to Lavender to sight back, but we feel Hesperus
is 4' higher. Sighting with my 5X level confirmed this, +/- 2-3 feet. I
have tested it at Evergreen Lake, along 1/2 mile of perfect flat, and I can
tell about 1-2' at a 1/2 mile.

Be sure to bring ankle gaiters, and run down the black loamy scree chute a
thousand feet in two minutes back to timber line. Starts here:

D (I will be at Pigeon & Turret this weekend, possibly Orvis Monday
afternoon, rendezvous ?) C

Call my cell, or text me, unable to get email on the road, I know you live
close to there.... I can get you a personalized Hiking Colorado's Summits
book.

Yay!

Thanks so much! I rather like this answer.

Interestingly, if Hesperus is taller it probably won't happen this weekend.
I have friends in Mancos so I'll likely make a weekend out of it when I
head that way. :-)
