Jim--still remember running into you unexpectedly on Deseret Peak in UT when you pulled into the trailhead that morning. We chatted briefly, you'd mentioned just climbing Ibapah...once I woke up a bit more, it began to occur to me that maybe, just maybe you guys were county highpointers too, and sure enough!! We ended up teaming up for Nebo two days later as well.

Also, congrats on your recent Utah completion! Was glad to get to be a small part of that journey...

Of interest on this topic as well are the highpoints of the US-Mexico and Lower 48-Canada boundaries. I don't recall the exact coordinates and don't have time to find them now, but per my own research, they were near the forbidden fruit of Hidalgo County NM, and in Glacier NP, respectively.

The only local maxima I've been to on an international boundary are Boundary Butte, ND/MB and the mainland highpoint of the Netherlands (at the Germany/Belgium/Netherlands tripoint).

Congratulations to Helmut Linzbichler on his completion of the county HPs of Utah. Helmut finished the Beehive State on July 22 of this year on Mt. Nebo in Utah County. He is the 58th completer of Utah, which bumps Jim Retemeyer and Adam Jantzdown to 59th and 60th, respectively. He is also the first person to finish in Utah County, and, as far as I can tell, the first non-North American to complete Utah. The state has now been completed in 20 of its 29 counties.

Thanks to John Mitchler for this info.

Thanks, Dave! So far so good. We've been in semi-seige mentality for 4
weeks now. The fire crews have mostly held the Wolverine Fire 1 1/2 miles
across the lake from the boat landing with very little movement. It's also
threatening to cross into Devore and Company Creek drainages at high
elevations (which lead down into the valley). Goode Fire is stable. Twisp
fire, Trapline Fire, Blankenship Fire, and several others are 10-20 miles
from us and our smoke situation is seriously bad on some days (I wear an
N95-rated mask if I'm doing anything aerobic outside). NPS & DNR fire
crews cut a line right behind our house "just in case" and we've got
rooftop sprinklers'/etc. going, etc. I'm helping neighbors and doing some
modest volunteer work with our local fire district (Chelan County FD#10).
So far, we're really lucky compared to a lot of very nearby communities.
Thanks to all of you who hvae contacted us with tidings and good wishes!

Supposed to start raining tomorrow night... fingers crossed!

"Everest The Movie" and "Meru"

Beckie & I saw both of these movies this week. The CMC was our connection
to freebie tix for the Everest movie, two weeks ahead of its premier. 3D,
so you have to wear specs. Pretty good flick, but they really crapped on
Beck Weathers, Jon Krakauer, Scott Fisher. Over-dramatized, I think...

We saw Meru with 9 friends at the little Esquire theater in Denver. Great
flick, gotta see it! They failed once, overcame obstacles, did it on the
2nd try. Meru had repulsed all other attempts over the decades. Conrad
Anker, Jimmy Chin, Renan Ozturk. Well done. Lots of analysis of Risk etc.
Lots of recent events really hit home to me. In the end an uplifting
experience.

Dave (off tomorrow to shoot for Pigeon & Turret, Centennial 13rs, off of
the train from Silverton CO) Covill
