Thank you Mike. I appreciate you and the other moderators' efforts to keep politics out of a place it doesn't belong.

Cheers

East Mountain is no longer driveable. I just got back from a long weekend in New England. Here's an updated report:

August 29, 2015

Previous directions to Radar Rd. are still valid. 4.5 miles after turning onto Radar Rd, you'll reach a T junction just after passing through a gate. Turn right and you'll soon pass through the second gate mentioned in other reports. After two miles, you'll reach the first set of buildings. There's parking here, and this is now where you should park. A couple hundred feet past this set of building the road has been plowed up and blocked by a huge metal tank and a few large boulders. From here it's about 2.5 miles to the top.

Obama changes the name of Mt Mc Kinley to Mt Denali and now the new Mt Denali is downsized by the USGS from 20,320 feet to 20,310 feet. Strange coincidence or symbolic of the times. Yours to ponder.

Denali, not Mt. Denali.

Area count for Lucas county IA

Per the list Doug Melton posted to the Yahoo
Lidarhighpointers egroup he has worked up LiDAR for
Lucas COHP. If I was visiting this COHP I'd want
to know about the info LiDAR provides.

(Gustave)
>but I found an error. Lucas County Iowa has twelve points with one extra
>point listed as Marion 11 in the mix.

Yes Marion 11 is actually one of the 12 Lucas areas.

Lucas 5, 6 and 7 are all in the same big area,
so two of these are not needed.

And an area at 40.908260, -93.532750 needs to be added.

Gory details follow - Andy

Current pin locations are seen south of Des Moines at:

http://www.cohp.org/googlepages/googlehp.html?lat=42.17969&lon=-93.50464&scale=7&file=ia&height=550

You will need to zoom in.

Book listing:
Lucas 8 areas, sec. 22,23,26,27,28,33,34,35 & 36 1100+ 71N-23W
Derby
6 areas, 1 s.e. 1106, sec 16,17,20,21,28,29,32 & 33 1100+
71N-23W Le Roy

>From this I prepared area count at
http://caltopo.com/m/253H
you may need to zoom in to proper area.

The COHP book listing checks out, though the Le Roy quad
area with spot elev 1102 in sections 16,17,20,21 might be
manmade road fill.

A count image is also uploaded to egroup files section,
AreaCounts directory, file IALucas...jpg

There are two areas double counted by the book
(on both quads), marked by open circles.
This means 12 distinct areas are seen when the maps are joined.
