Just a reminder that ticks carry several diseases, in addition to Deer Ticks carrying Lyme Disease.

One disease is a relative of Typhus. Then there is Rocky Mountain Tick Fever.
Deer Ticks can also carry Babesiosis, which is a sort of ersatz Malaria, and will life-disqualify you from donating blood.

Supposedly there are two 'danger' periods for deer ticks, about May when you can pick up the mid-sized growing tick, and August when you can pick up the adult tick. The mid-sized tick is more dangerous. At the size of a poppy seed they are hard to spot. This year I picked up an adult deer tick June 1st. ... So far I've been lucky not to have gotten sick from a tick.

I got a severe tick related infection last year--doctors not sure whether it was Lyme or something else--spent four days in the hospital and I'm still suffering after effects a year later. Watch out for the little buggers! dick oestreicher
