Manitowoc WI Coordinates

The links to Acme Mapper from cohp.org for Manitowoc County, WI are placed considerably off of the contours on the topo map. Could someone please fix this? I have coordinates from the county's own contour data which line up much more closely with the situation on the topo and on the ground that could be used.

Manitowoc County: Four Areas 1040+
Data comes from 2 contours from Manitowoc County:

Southern Arizona CoHP Thanksgiving Trip
Thu Nov 5, 2015 10:30 am (PST) . Posted by:

I am looking to do a 5-day trip to southern Arizona over Thanksgiving break, provided the weather cooperates.

The three CoHPs around Tucson will be the primary targets: Wrightson (Santa Cruz), Lemmon (Pima) and Rice North Slope (Pinal). The last two will be done together in one day by driving part-way up Lemmon and then hiking north on Oracle Ridge to Rice and back. Will also be looking to hit up Miller Peak, one of the 5 Arizona Ultras.

There's already two of us going and we can use a couple more people. If interested, please contact me at hikeclimbrun@gmail.com. Happy Holidays!

Day Pack Recommendation

My ancient day pack has given up the ghost.

Looking for recommendations for a new one. I am not interested in a hydration pack, but would like to at least have external holder(s) for water bottles. Shoulder comfort
is critical for me.

Thanks in advance,

Mike Schwartz

Ive been very happy with my Gregory Z35. And Gregory stands behind their products to an extraordinary degree.

Its fairly large as day packs go, but since most of my day hikes are solo, I like the ability to carry 10 essentials, first aid kit, etc., etc.

I use a Teton Sports Summit 1500. It's not the fanciest but the price is right and its served me well on many hikes.

One tip: most backpacks on Amazon are now eligible for free returns. So
you can order your top contenders, see which one (if any) works best for
you, and send back the rest. When I was recently in the market, that
allowed me to try several packs side-by-side, loaded equally, and compare
how they felt.

I ended up going with the Osprey Talon 33. I was blown away by how much
lighter it felt to carry an equally-weighted pack when using the Talon. I
even ran my test a 2nd and 3rd time, because it seemed like I must have
forgotten something, but no. There is something magical about that pack's
support structure, on my body at least.

Hi Mike,

My day pack is an Osprey Stratos 36. It can accommodate a hydration bladder, if required, and it has a built in ran fly. I have found it very comfortable when loaded with more than 25 pounds. I believe Osprey makes a Stratos 24 if you want a smaller pack. Osprey also backs up everything they make and I think they all come with an "Owner's Manual." REI is a great source for these packs.

I am from the old school and have a water bottle in a pouch attached with a bineer to a pack strap. However, the Stratos douse have external water bottle pouches.

I use the REI Flash and then took a pair of scissors to it. It's very
comfortable but doesn't have exterior water holders.

I upgraded to the Flash 22 which does have external pockets for water, plus top and inside zipper pockets. Super light.

I guess it's time to start identifying historic cohps because 3000 isn't enough!

One of interest in Arizona is Pinal Peak, which at one time was the cohp of
three counties: Maricopa, Pinal and Gila, at different times as new
counties were created from older ones. Somehow, the boundaries were drawn
so that Pinal Peak is not a cohp. If you climb it (or drive it), you get a
vestigial-three-fer.

Aztec Peak was at one time Maricopa County's HP. Mount Bangs was the cohp
of Pah-Ute County, which only existed for a few years.
