> Perhaps the trade could involve sending Bear Mountain (2,327 ft.), with its lookout and popular location along the Appalachian Trail, from CT to MA in exchange for the mighty Mount Frissell massif.

Unlikely since Bear Mtn is a better peak and thought by many to be the HP already

A more likely deal would be to give MA a few acres on the S slope of Mt Frissell so Bear would become the true CT HP

To: John Hasch and Scott Surgent:

The book on Utah lowpoints is:
Utah Low Points - A Guide to the Lowest Points in Utahs Twenty- Nine
Counties - By Fred J. Nash
Published by The University of Utah Press - Salt Lake City in 2008 -
Printed and bound by Sheridan Books, Inc.,Ann Arbor , Michigan.

The Book includes GPS Coordinates.

### Nice, I had never heard of this. I wonder if data exists for other
states.

For those who joined in the past decade, Kline Barney is an early UT cohp
completer, from 2003.

Personally, I have had enough trouble just getting to the Highest Point of
the Utah Counties, still have 3 to go, hoping for a 2016 Completion !

Scott Surgent wrote "Just a handful of states have lowpoints below sea level: CA, LA, and TX
(Texas' being where the Rio Grande changed direction, leaving behind
depressions that eventually dried out, not far from where it drains into
the Gulf)."

The LA low-point is artificial. There are several below sea-level areas in LA, all man-made.

AK has a natural below sea-level area(s), at Lake Nunavakanuk, AK, -4 ft. This is a multiple areas low-point, although the lake occupies the largest below sea-level closed contour. My guess is that it was created by the delta of the Yukon River, and the overall dry climate of the area, much like the delta of the Colorado River created the Imperial Valley out of the northwest end of the Gulf of California.

TX has several additional artificial below sea-level holes in Galveston, Jefferson and Orange counties.

WA has several artificial below sea-level holes in Island, Skagit and Snohomish counties. I have been to one, though I have to rely on the map's statement that I was below sea level.

Separately, I have identified one cause of lines like

margin:0 0 1em 0;}

If you reply to the daily digest, such lines will be at the end. You have to take responsibility to remove those lines, and everything else of the daily digest that you don't want to post to cohp yahoogroups.

Jersey COHP, Illinois

I have recently worked my way through the Land of Lincoln and found that we have perhaps been visiting the wrong point for this county. LiDAR analysis indicates that the point that has been traditionally visited is the location of a bust in the USGS topo map, and that the true location lies eastward.

The new point also lies within Pere Marquette State Park and is easily accessible by a short walk across the state game land. The HP is buried in the expected thicket of briers and brush on top of the hill.

I am attaching a workup of my analysis for your review. Peakbagger has changed the location to the new point and we now have two P300 peaks in Jersey County. Greg appears to have transferred previous COHP claims to the new point and removed them from the old COHP which is now labeled as Peak 890. I have also submitted this information to Lists of John for John's review.

Merry Christmas all.

Doug
