Sassafras paver stone.

Just something else to consider -

I've asked myself, if I was to pass away in the hills, would I have wanted to be memorialized with a paver stone atop Sassafras Mountain? Hmm..

As for Adam, I find it a tad out of place due to his periodic comments in dismissing mountains where the point/peak required little to no effort. His CoHP map clearly shows his lack of interest in this regard. He even brought us "Helman Counties" and authored a book on prominence. With that said, I'm thinking Sassafras wasn't what he had in mind.

For Edward, the same can somewhat be said thus the term "Earlization". Another point is it somewhat makes sense in considering Sassafras as a permanent solution for Edward, since he's from South Carolina, but not so much considering that Sassafras isn't even a P1K. The concept of prominence dominated his direction for the past several years so I find it "strangely ironic" that this is where his name might be placed for all eternity; on a peak with 754 feet of "prom".

Back to my opening question - if I was to pass away in the hills, would I have wanted to be memorialized with a paver stone atop Sassafras Mountain? Hmm, probably not.

I never met Edward and I don't know where his ashes were scattered, but I still think Sassafras is a good and appropriate place for a memorial. He visited there this past April 17, so I presume he was interested in the development of the mountaintop park and tower. Sassafras turned out to be his final state HP. (He did not "Earlize" it.)
Moreover, it would be good for a memorial to be in a publicly accessible place--for the sake of people like me who admire his accomplishments and seek to follow in his footsteps. I'm confident that the Sassafras park and tower will be something he would have appreciated for what it is--close to home.

Of the state HPs I've visited, I think NC and MA are the only ones with memorials on top. This is a rare opportunity.

My take, after reading all the comments: lets do a medium or large paver for Edward at Sassafras, and look for other permanent ways to honor those whove greatly contributed to our obsession and have passed away.

Mt Washington NH has both onsite and group memorials for folks who died there
